Château d’Abzac

A family owned estate

Owned by the d’Anglade Family for more than two centuries, Château d’Abzac is located 14km north of Libourne, close to the famous Saint-Émilion and Pomerol vineyards..

As we can admire it today, it was built at the very beginning of the 17th century and has not significantly changed over the years. As the d’ANGLADE family still resides in the Châteaux, it continues with its idealic rural daily life. Its large square courtyard flanked by five pavilions with Périgord-style roofs looks out over the vineyard, and has since the 17th century. The terrace overlooks the river Isle, and a large factory built in the 18th century, which is now the headquarters of a family-owned industrial group : ABZAC S.A. All this architectural heritage, maintained with love and passion by the d’Anglade Family, is Classified as Historic Monument.

A noble terroir

It is located on the famous « Gunz gravel » terrace, that extends along the Isle river towards Libourne, up to Pomerol and Figeac (Saint-Emilion). It is made up of a basis of clay surrounded by a thick red gravel layer. The stones of this meagre and well-drained soil store heat during the daytime and release it in cooler periods, ensuring a prefect grape ripening. The 35-hectares vineyard is planted with Merlot (90%), Cabernet-Franc (3%) and Cabernet Sauvignon. The average age of the vineyard is 25 years.

Delicacy and elegance

Vinified in the purest Bordeaux tradition, in stainless steel tanks with perfect temperature control, Château d’Abzac wines come in three versions.

- Le Bordeaux Supérieur « Réserve ». It is aged for one year in French oak barrels (one third new barrels, one third one-year-old barrels, and the remaining third two-year-old barrels).

- Le Bordeaux Supérieur bred for 2 years in stainless steel tanks before bottling.

- « Les Tours d'Abzac », Bordeaux produced from our youngest vines, also bred for 2 years in stainless steel tanks.

The bottling takes place exclusively at the Chateau.
Château d'Abzac wines are balanced, with a pretty nose of red and black fruits. The palate is well-rounded and supple. Our wines are pleasant to drink the very next year following the bottling, and reach their peak in the fifth year.

Each year, Château d’Abzac wines receive awards and medals.
Château d’Abzac is listed in the Guide Gilbert and on 1001 Dégustations..
